German musicologist Helge Thoene's theory that Bach's famous Chaconne for solo violin contains an intricate web of references to a German Easter hymn, perhaps motivated by the untimely death of the composer's first wife, is brought audibly and hauntingly to life in a beautiful realisation by one of Europe's most distinguished soloists and concertmasters in collaboration with the world-famous Hilliard Ensemble, currently celebrating its 40th-anniversary season.

'The world's foremost vocal quartet, with a sound exquisitely attuned to Renaissance music but increasingly attractive to living composers.'
The Daily Telegraph
