Handel  L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato

Gabrieli Consort & Players
Paul McCreesh

Handel's ravishing oratorio setting Milton's examination of the contrasting sides of the human personality - the lively and the pensive - contains some of the composer's most delicate and poetic evocations of English town and country, including the famous aria 'Sweet bird'. Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Consort & Players are known and admired throughout the world for their colourful vocal and instrumental style, and make a welcome return to open this year's Festival.
