'... pour passer la Mélancolie'

Andreas Staier

One of the world's most admired performers of historic keyboard instruments, Andreas Staier appears at the Lufthansa Festival for the first time as a solo recitalist. Here he brings a programme of noble, refined and deeply felt works by the great harpsichord masters of the 17th century, including Louis Couperin, Froberger, J. C. F. Fischer, D'Anglebert and Muffat.

'The performance had such finesse, clarity and poetry that the music breathed its country air completely afresh.'

Swedish soprano Maria Keohane joins the bright young talents of the European Union Baroque Orchestra in a keen-aired programme of Handel vocal and orchestral works, including a powerful cantata in which a lover mourns the death of her sweetheart (drowned trying to swim the Hellespont to reach her), and a piece which calls on nature to aid the faithful in breathing 'the radiant air of heaven'.

'[Maria Keohane's] voice has the resonance and purity of a bell and the flight of a swallow.'
The Times

'Rarely have I seen so much smiling communication and listening between musicians on a concert stage. EUBO's concert was a delicate, joyous gem ... wonderful, uplifting stuff.'
