Saturday 10th June - A Bach Marathon

A unique event uniting performers from across Europe in a Bach Marathon. The music represented takes in the full spectrum of Bach's output: from his awe-inspiring organ works to his sparkling, Italian-influenced concertos; and from the intimacy of his chamber music to the grandeur of his sacred vocal works.

Two celebratory cantatas, 'Gott fähret auf mit Jauchzen' BWV 43 and 'Herz und Mund und Tag und Leben' BWV 147, interwoven with solo and duo keyboard works, including the Concerto in C minor for two harpsichords, BWV 1060.

4.30-5.15pm
Davitt Moroney gives a Bach recital on the magnificent organ of St. John's, Smith Square - an instrument ideally suited to Baroque music made by Johannes Klais of Bonn.

Renowned for their performances of Italian Baroque music, Concerto Italiano and Rinaldo Alessandrini have recently given some equally acclaimed interpretations of Bach. For this programme, they are joined by Désirée Rancatore, who made an outstanding British debut for the re-opening of Covent Garden last year.
